About Sumida

Sumida is an old-town ward with Tokyo Skytree at its centre. Craft traditions that date back to the Edo period are still alive here, drawing visitors from Japan and abroad who want to feel the city's history up close. Walking the riverside promenade along the Sumida River with the breeze off the water is a pleasure in itself, and on clear days the Skytree observation decks look all the way to Mount Fuji. After dark, the illuminated tower reflected in the river is a view you will not tire of. Asakusa is about 5 minutes away by train and Ueno about 15. Ryogoku Kokugikan and the Edo-Tokyo Museum are within walking distance. Haneda Airport is about 40 minutes by train, Narita about 90. Sumida suits anyone who wants a truly Japanese side of Tokyo.
