About Itabashi
Itabashi, in north-western Tokyo, pairs old-town warmth with plenty of greenery. Akatsuka Botanical Garden and Akatsuka Park make it easy to leave the city noise behind for an hour or two. Itabashi-shuku prospered as a post town on the Nakasendo highway, and traces of that history remain along the old route. The Itabashi Art Museum shows both Japanese and international work if you feel like a quieter, cultural afternoon. Lively shopping streets are everywhere, and they are the best way to eat local and feel the neighbourhood. Ikebukuro is only about 10 minutes away by train, Shinjuku about 20, and Shibuya about 30.
