About Kita

Kita is an underrated ward where old-town atmosphere meets generous greenery. Asukayama Park has been loved as a cherry blossom spot since the Edo period, and in spring some 600 trees come into bloom. A short walk away, three museums — the Shibusawa Memorial Museum, the Kita City Asukayama Museum, and the Paper Museum — let you dig into the history of Oji. In the evening the drinking quarter of Akabane comes alive; known as a home of cheap-and-cheerful izakaya, it is a great place to eat old-town Tokyo food without spending much. The blended Japanese-Western gardens of the former Furukawa Garden and the quiet grounds of Oji Shrine are also worth your time. Ueno is about 15 minutes by train and Ikebukuro about 10; Haneda Airport is roughly 60 minutes and Narita about 80.
