An old-town ward around Kita-Senju with easy access to Asakusa and Ueno at lower nightly rates.
Adachi, in north-eastern Tokyo, combines old-town warmth with real energy. Kita-Senju, the ward's centre, has gained a wave of stylish cafes and restaurants in recent years and now buzzes with a younger crowd. Walk its historic shopping streets, which grew up around a post town, and you can shop and eat with the Edo period never far away. Family-friendly spots such as the Adachi Biological Park and the Urban Agriculture Park make it easy to spend time outdoors, and the promenades along the Sumida and Arakawa rivers change beautifully with the seasons. Asakusa is about 15 minutes by train and Akihabara about 20, with Ueno about 15 and Shinjuku about 35. Haneda Airport is roughly 55 minutes and Narita only about 45.
