About Tsumagoi

Tsumagoi is a highland resort village cradled by 2,000-metre peaks including Mount Asama. Its symbol is the highland cabbage fields, the most productive in Japan, which turn the view green as far as the eye can see from June through October. Onioshidashi Park, formed by lava from the great eruption of Mount Asama in 1783, is counted among the world's three great volcanic landscapes and still conveys the violence of that event. Manza Onsen, on the south-western flank of Mount Shirane at an altitude of 2,160 metres, is one of the highest sulphur springs in Japan and a short trip from your accommodation for a memorable soak. The village is a popular summer retreat. From Tokyo Station it is about 1 hour 10 minutes to Karuizawa by Hokuriku Shinkansen, then roughly 1 hour 45 minutes by bus.
