An Izu resort town known for hot springs and dramatic coastline, great for seafood and onsen hopping.
Ito is one of the finest hot spring resorts in Izu, known for abundant thermal water and a dramatic coastline. Ito Onsen ranks third in Japan by volume of spring water, with many inns using free-flowing source water, and a short walk from your accommodation is enough to go bath-hopping. Mount Omuro, with its distinctive upturned-bowl profile, can be climbed by chairlift, after which the Ohachi-meguri walk circles the crater with views out to Mount Fuji, the Izu islands, and Sagami Bay. At Jogasaki Coast, formed by lava around 4,000 years ago, the 48-metre Kadowaki Suspension Bridge hangs about 23 metres above the sea, and the 9km Picnical Course is a popular walk. Shaboten Park and Lake Ippeki are good for families. Tokyo is about 1 hour 40 minutes away on the Odoriko limited express.
